A sculk torch: see where mobs can spawn, without a light level overlay mod
Combine a torch with a sculk sensor into a sculk torch. Held in either hand, it lights around you like a torch, and lays a faint creeper's face on every block around where monsters can spawn: light them up, and the faces go away.
Part of Cassonade, a free vanilla+ mod for Minecraft 26.3 (Fabric)
How it works
See where monsters can spawn before they do.
- Held in either hand, it lights around you like a torch, as any torch in hand does with Cassonade.
- On every block up to 12 blocks around where a monster can spawn, a creeper's face lies flat, like a faint shadow, hidden by the blocks in front.
- Dark where monsters can spawn at any time, in caves and under roofs; light where they can only at night, open to the sky.
- It reads the light your game knows: place torches until no face is left.
Questions
How do I see where mobs can spawn?
Hold a sculk torch: a faint creeper's face shows on every block around where a monster can spawn. Place torches or other light until the faces are gone.
What do the dark and light faces mean?
A dark face is a spot dark enough at any time, like a cave. A light one is open to the sky: monsters spawn there only at night.
How do I craft the sculk torch?
Mine a sculk sensor with a Silk Touch tool in the deep dark, then combine it with a torch in any crafting grid.
Does it work in multiplayer?
Yes, on any server: your game reads the light it already knows.
